Hans Peter Schlickewei (* 1947 ) is a German mathematician who deals with number theory (theory of transcendent numbers ). He is a professor at the Philipps University of Marburg .

Schlickewei received his doctorate in 1975 from the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg under Theodor Schneider ( approximation of algebraic numbers by rational numbers ).

In 1976 he proved the p-adic generalization of Wolfgang Schmidt's subspace theorem .

In 1998 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Berlin ( The Subspace Theorem and Applications ).
