Hans Schlesinger (architect)

Hans Samuel Schlesinger , also Samuel Schlesinger (* 1890 in Vienna ; † after 1938), was an Austrian architect.

Life and works

Hans Schlesinger was a son of Bernhard and Helene Schlesinger and had several siblings.

After 1900 he gave up his Jewish first name Samuel. He studied at the Technical University of Vienna. At times he shared a studio with Willy Wiesner . Wiesner and Schlesinger took part in a weekend house competition together in 1929. In 1930, Schlesinger designed a floorboard in the Vienna Künstlerhaus for the exhibition Book and Contemporary Space . Together with Wiesner, he set up Clemens Holzmeister's house number 23 at Jagićgasse 10 in Vienna for the Wiener Werkbundsiedlung . In 1931 he gave lectures in the advice center for interior design of the Austrian Association for Housing Reform "Best".

Schlesinger evidently designed mainly portal buildings and weekend houses. He emigrated to the USA in 1938.
