Hans Singer (chemist)

Hans Singer (born December 17, 1921 in Berlin ; † July 6, 1979 ) was a German chemist , resistance fighter against National Socialism and an official in the GDR.

Life

Singer was the son of the late director of the Municipal Opera Berlin , Kurt Singer born. In 1933 he emigrated to Switzerland with his mother . There he completed his chemistry studies at the ETH Zurich . In 1942 he was a member and temporarily secretary of the Free Germany Movement in Switzerland. Because of his political activities, Singer spent a year and a half in prison in Switzerland.

After the end of the war in 1945 he returned to Germany and became a member of the KPD . In 1948 he moved to the Soviet occupation zone , where he joined the SED . He was professor for technology of elastics in the chemistry section at the Technical University of Leuna-Merseburg . From 1967 to 1969 he was chairman of the Chemical Society of the GDR. In 1969 he was appointed General Director of the Buna-Werke chemical combine .

Hans Singer was married to the painter Vera Singer, who was also emigrating to Switzerland.
