Hans Wildefüer

Hans Wildefüer or Wildefuer (* approx. 1483 in Hildesheim ; † 1541 ibid) was multiple ruling mayor of Hildesheim's old town between 1526 and 1541 .

Wildefüer was a staunch supporter of the old faith and prevented the introduction of the Reformation in Hildesheim throughout his life , so that it could only move into the old and new town of Hildesheim after his death under his successor Harmen Sprenger in 1542.

1528 he reached with Emperor Charles V (HRR) the award of a new, half way around the black imperial eagle and the Virgin as a crest extended arms for the old town. Two years later he was knighted by him in Innsbruck .

Wildefüer's grave is in Hildesheim's Andreaskirche . In 1895, Wildefüerstraße in the southern part of the city was named after him.
