Hansen President

For a long time Hansen President was the premium product ( rum blend ) with 42% alcohol from the traditional Flensburg rum trading house Hansen and later Dethleffsen. After the downfall of the Flensburg rum houses, the brand was sold to the Berentzen spirits company from Haselünne in the early 2000s, together with Bommerlunder .

history

On the occasion of the completion of the Hindenburg dam , which connects the North Frisian island of Sylt with the mainland, the then Reich President Hindenburg inaugurated the building named after him in 1927 . During this visit he was presented with a bottle of specially stored and aged Flensburg Hansen rum. Hindenburg was so impressed by the product that he allowed the Rumhaus Hansen from Flensburg to call the rum “President” for all time. The rum was then called Hansen President and the label bore a portrait of Hindenburg. At that time Hansen became presidentFilled in champagne bottles, as these were thicker-walled and thus better protected the precious contents. The bottles were closed with a cork and sealing wax. The portrait on the label had to be removed at the insistence of the National Socialists - but the name was retained. In the Flensburg Rum Museum, the Hansen President has been given a separate section.
