Happy Rhodes (born August 9, 1965 in Poughkeepsie , New York , as Kimberly Tyler Rhodes ) is an American singer , songwriter and musician in the field of electronic music .

From a very early age, she was only referred to by her nickname Happy - with the consequence that she changed her name to Happy Tyler Rhodes at the age of 16. The title of her album from 1987 gave the name to the music genre Ecto .

Her vocal range extends from high pitches, where she sounds like the early Kate Bush , all the way down into the low range, where she sounds almost like Annie Lennox . Her songs When The Rain Came Down from the album Ecto and Tragic from the album Many Worlds are Born Tonight impressively demonstrate her vocal abilities.

Happy Rhodes released her first nine albums on the independent label Aural Gratification , the tenth album Many Worlds are Born Tonight was released on Samson Music . The eleventh album Find Me , announced in 2001, was completed in September 2007 and was released on LoLo Records .
