Harald Genzmer Composition Competition

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Harald Genzmer Composition Competition has been held since 2010 by the Harald Genzmer Foundation in conjunction with the Munich University of Music and Theater and the German Music Council: Jugend musiziert . The competition is advertised every two years for changing chamber music ensembles and is aimed at composers of no age, regardless of nationality.

The composer Harald Genzmer (1909–2007) was a member of the Munich University of Music from 1957 to 1974. As a teacher and mentor, he was a role model and leading figure for several generations of composers. The heir to his artistic legacy is the foundation he set up that bears his name. The competition is intended to address the musical work of Harald Genzmer. In the spirit of Harald Genzmer, the newly created works should be “vital, artistic and understandable - they may win over the interpreter as practicable, and then the listener as comprehensible” (Harald Genzmer, 1978). The award-winning works should also be suitable as repertoire pieces for the Jugend musiziert competition announced by the German Music Council . (Difficulty level III, medium difficult).

The 2016 competition is open to the flute and piano instrumentation.
