Harald Beyer (2011)

Harald Beyer (born April 2, 1964 in Osorno ) is a Chilean politician . Following the resignation of Felipe Bulnes , he was appointed Minister of Education in his country on December 29, 2011. He was removed from office on April 17, 2013.

One of his first initiatives as minister of education was the attempt to describe the period of Augusto Pinochet's rule from 1973 to 1990 in school books as a “ military regime ” instead of a “ military dictatorship ” as was customary in the past . Due to the massive criticism, however, he had to give up the project again.

On April 17, 2013 the Chilean Senate confirmed the impeachment of Harald Beyer with 20 to 18 votes. He was accused of failing to monitor profits within the education system.
