Hard Candy was an Australian gothic and grunge band that existed from 1992 to 2000.

history

The band was founded in 1992 by the singer and guitarist Erika Bach and the Greek-born bassist and guitarist Demetri Vlass in Melbourne after their predecessor band Ape the Cry broke up. In their musical direction, the band was initially influenced by the late 1980s and played Gothic or Wave. When the wave of graves swept from the USA to Australia, their music was influenced by this style.

The first three releases in the 1980s and early 1990s were self-published by their own record company Loud Records . In the mid-1990s they signed a record deal with the Australian record company Mushroom Records, a sub-label of the Warner Music Group , transferred the rights and released two more albums. The band broke up in 2000 when the success and sales declined as the grungy wave subsided.
