Hardy Pfanz

Hardy Pfanz (* 1956 in Dinkelsbühl ) is professor for applied botany and volcanic biology at the University of Duisburg-Essen . His research focuses on ecophysiological studies and research into phytopathologies (diseases in plants), especially the pathogen Phytophthora alni .

Life

Pfanz studied biology and geography at the University of Würzburg, where he also received his doctorate from U. Heber and his habilitation from OL Lange. From 1993 to 1996 he worked as an assistant professor at the TU Dresden. Since 1996 he has been a professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen, where he is professor of applied botany and volcanic biology and director of the botanical garden in Essen .

In the area of ​​ecophysiology, Pfanz is primarily concerned with habitats that are largely shaped by mofettes and the adaptations that various organisms that occur in these extreme locations have developed. As part of his research, numerous localities in Europe, North America and East Asia were examined.
