Harmonic Brass

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Harmonic Brass is a brass quintet from Munich. It is operated in the form of a GbR . The managing directors are Andreas Binder and Hans Zellner.

history

Harmonic Brass was founded in 1991. To make a living, the musicians played in other professional orchestras or gave lessons. In 1997 the musicians, all of whom had a university education and orchestral engagements, decided to work exclusively as a chamber music ensemble.

The ensemble offers wind music from different epochs and styles. The repertoire includes classical works and self-written arrangements and compositions as well as modern pieces from all over the world. Humorous interim moderations are also offered.

The musical guests were Lars Ranch , Helmut Pöhner and Bruno Feldkircher (trumpet), Sergej Fedyanin and Christian Balser (trombone), Gerhard Merkl (organ), Markus Hoffmann (flugelhorn), Martin Ruhland (percussion) and Henning Kirsch (percussion).

Harmonic Brass toured across Europe, Japan, South Korea, North and South America, the Middle East and South Africa, among others on behalf of the Goethe Institute .

By 2018 Harmonic Brass had released 34 CDs with the music publisher "Brass Works Munich". Here they also offer their Harmonic Brass Series , arrangements and compositions for brass quintets, trombone choirs and brass ensembles in various formations. The musicians are also lecturers at workshops and master courses for brass instruments.

Since 2012 the musicians have been supervising the Brass Project South Africa in cooperation with the universities of Bloemfontein and Stellenbosch. Socially disadvantaged children and young people in South Africa are provided with brass instruments.
