Harrington Seed Destructor
The Harrington Seed Destructor ( HSD ) is an agricultural machine used to control weeds . The HSD destroys weed seeds during the grain harvest .
The use of herbicides is a widespread tool in arable farming today that removes weeds and facilitates conservation tillage . One challenge for this system is the development of herbicide resistance in weeds. In addition to new chemical agents, non-chemical measures could also help.
With this in mind, the HSD was developed in Western Australia . The HSD is a device attached to the combine harvester . The chaff extracted by the combine , which also contains weed seeds, is forwarded to the HSD and ground there.
