Bernardino Biondelli

Bernardino Biondelli (born March 14, 1804 in Zevio , † July 11, 1886 in Milan ) was an Italian Romance scholar and dialectologist .

life and work

Biondelli taught mathematics, history and geography in schools in Verona and the surrounding area. In 1839 he went to Milan and worked there scientifically, namely in linguistics, where he made contact with German research and Rasmus Rask and dealt with Italian dialectology and the Aztec language . From 1859 to 1884 he was professor of archeology at the Accademia scientifico-letteraria of Milan. He also distinguished himself as a numismatist (he headed the numismatic department of the Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense ).
