Harry Clasen (born December 26, 1935 ) is a former German soccer player who played a total of 250 games in the first-class Oberliga Nord and the second-class Regionalliga Nord for VfB Lübeck and Phoenix Lübeck . From 1957 he played for VfB Lübeck for several years and was the team captain of Lübeck for a long time. Behind Karl Wenzel he is the record scorer for VfB Lübeck in its first division time.

Career

Clasen started playing football at VfB Lübeck before he went to VfL Vorwerk and spent his other years as a youth footballer there. In 1957, the young adult moved back to VfB and initially played in the reserve team before he was appointed to the squad of the first team after just a few games, which at that time played in the first-class Oberliga Nord and became a regular player there. Clasen played his first game in the 3-2 win over Eintracht Nordhorn , in which he was able to score his first goal immediately. In 16 other games, the runner scored two more goals (one of them in the 8-3 win over Werder Bremen ), which did not save VfB from relegation to the second-rate amateur league Schleswig-Holstein. During the season, Clasen rose to become team captain.

Since VfB developed into an elevator team, Clasen played several rounds of promotion, which were always successful for his club with his participation. In addition to important goals in the promotion rounds, Clasen was also instrumental in a 3-2 win over Werder Bremen when he was able to prepare two of the three goals for Günter Schütt.

During his league time, in which he scored 25 goals, Clasen had offers from FC St. Pauli and Hannover 96 . VfB Lübeck managed to prevent a virtually permanent move to the Hamburgers by arranging a job for Clasen with a Lübeck company and helping Harry Clasens to find an apartment.

From 1963 he played in the now second-rate Regionalliga Nord. In the six seasons he completed 138 games in which he was able to score nine goals. After playing five games in the 1968/69 regional league season, he was stopped by stomach surgery and, despite the fact that he was still in the squad, he couldn't play another game for VfB, which was promoted to the Bundesliga in the same year could qualify and failed there. In 1970/71 he played eight times for Phoenix Lübeck and scored one goal.

Clasen has been married for more than fifty years and has two children and four grandchildren. The left foot was considered a very versatile player during his playing days; he was used most often as an outside runner and as a center forward. Together with Albert Felgenhauer , Max Hoppe and Karl Wenzel, he is one of the most important players in the club in its senior league days.
