The Hartwig-Hesse-Foundation is a non-profit foundation under civil law based in Hamburg . It offers a wide range of services in the area of ​​housing, care and care in old age ( care for the elderly ). The administration and management are based at Alexanderstraße 29 in Hamburg St. Georg.

The foundation was established in 1826 by the merchant Hartwig Hesse as Hartwig Hesse's widows' foundation . The widows of brokers and boatmen found accommodation here free of charge. The only requirement was to plant a tree in the community garden once a year. The costs were covered by income from rented apartments on the same site. The administration was carried out by the founder himself and a board of trustees consisting of five members. An administration building was located in the facility for this purpose.

The foundation is managed by a voluntary board of trustees and management, supported by employees.
