Harunabad (Urdu: ہارون آباد) is a town in district Bahawalnagar in the province of Punjab in Pakistan .

history

Harunabad is now the administrative seat of Tehsil Harunabad and an important city in the Bahawalnagar district. The city is not very old. It was created and established as part of the Satluj Valley Project during the colonization of the region under British rule in the second decade of the 20th century. Before colonization, the location of today's city of Harunabad was known as Toba Badru Wala. The word "Toba" in the local language means "pond". It is said that on the north side of the station at a short distance there was a large natural pond where rainwater was collected.

In 1927 the branch line was built between the town of Forrtabbas and the town of Bahawalnagar . The train station in Harunabad city was built in the same year and was called Badru Wala Station. In addition, the establishment of an irrigation system as part of the Satluj Valley Project in 1934 contributed to the agricultural production of the hinterland and formed an important economic base for this small settlement.

At the time of the division of the subcontinent in 1947, large numbers of refugees settled here and the city's population increased significantly. The development of some residential colonies, the establishment of social services such as educational and health facilities, and the provision of public facilities made living conditions in the city more attractive and led to rapid growth.
