The district Bahawalnagar is an administrative district in Pakistan in the province of Punjab . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Bahawalnagar .

The district has an area of ​​8878 km² and according to the 2017 census 2,981,919 inhabitants. The population density is 335 inhabitants / km². The Panjabi language is spoken by the majority in the district .

geography

The borders of Bahawalnagar to the east and south touch Indian territory, while the Bahawalpur district lies to the west and the Sutlej River forms the northern border.

history

The area was formerly part of the Princely State of Bahawalpur , which was dissolved in 1956.

Demographics

Between 1998 and 2017 the population grew by 1.96% annually. Around 21% of the population live in urban regions and around 79% in rural regions.
