The Khushab District is an administrative district in Pakistan in the Punjab Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of Jauharabad .
The district has an area of 6511 km² and according to the 2017 census 1,281,299 inhabitants. The population density is 197 inhabitants / km². The Punjabi language is spoken by the majority in the district .

The district is located in the north of the Punjab Province, which is in the west of Pakistan.

history
The modern district emerged in 1982 from parts of the Sargodha district .
On March 21, 2000, an article in the Christian Science Monitor alleged that satellite photos revealed a nuclear reactor and missile base near the town of Khushab.
Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017 the population grew by 1.84% annually. Around 28% of the population live in urban regions and around 72% in rural regions. 638,071 men, 643,181 women and 47 transgender people live in 211,686 households , resulting in a gender ratio of 99.2 men per 100 women and thus a rare surplus of women for Pakistan.
The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 59% (women: 44%, men: 75%) and is thus slightly below the Punjab province average of 63%.
