The Muzaffargarh District is an administrative district in Pakistan in the Punjab Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Muzaffargarh .
The district has an area of 8249 km² and according to the 2017 census 4,322,009 inhabitants. The population density is 524 inhabitants / km². The Saraiki language is spoken by the majority in the district .

history
The city of Muzaffargarh was founded in 1794 by the governor of Multan , Nawab Muzaffar Khan .
Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017 the population grew by 2.63% annually. Around 16% of the population live in urban regions and around 84% in rural regions. In 667,515 households there are 2,218,744 men, 2,103,132 women and 133 transgender people , which results in a gender ratio of 105.5 men per 100 women and thus the usual surplus of men in Pakistan.
The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 45% (women: 31%, men: 59%) and thus below the average of the Punjab province of 63%.
