Sahiwal District is an administrative district in Pakistan in Punjab Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Sahiwal .
The district has an area of 3201 km² and according to the 2017 census 1,995,958 inhabitants. The population density is 624 inhabitants / km². The Punjabi language is spoken by the majority in the district .

The district is located in the center of the Punjab Province, which is in the east of Pakistan.
history
The region was u. a. Controlled by the Indo-Aryans , Greeks , Maurya , Kushana , Gupta , Hephthalites , Ghaznavids , the Sultanate of Delhi , Mughals , Sikhs and British .
Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017 the population grew by 1.65% annually. Around 21% of the population live in urban regions and around 79% in rural regions. 1,281,072 men, 1,236,369 women and 119 transgender people live in 392,509 households , resulting in a gender ratio of 103.6 men per 100 women, which is a common surplus for Pakistan.
The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 59% (women: 51%, men: 68%) and thus below the average of 63% in the Punjab Province.
