The Hatkoy ( Russian Гатукаи , Gatukai ) or Hatkuajer are a Circassian tribe . The Hatkoy settled on the Kuban in the North Caucasus . After the end of the Russo-Caucasian wars, they were expelled into the Ottoman Empire with other Circassian tribes in the 19th century . Today around 5,000 Hatkoy live in Turkey , around 200 in Syria and around 200 in Germany . The Hatkoy were known for their art of war and mainly served in the army in the Ottoman Empire.
