The Haughton Crater is an impact crater . It is located on Devon Island in Nunavut Territory , an area of ​​the Canadian Arctic . It has a diameter of 20 kilometers and was formed by a meteorite impact 39 million years ago. It is one of the northernmost craters that have been discovered so far (75 ° 22'N, 89 ° 41'W). It is the only known crater on earth that is surrounded by polar ice desert .
