main dish

A main course , also a main course or main course (in contrast to starters and desserts ) is the name given to the dish that takes the central and dominant position in a series of courses , the so-called menu (usually in the second or third position in the order of the courses) . The main course is usually prepared and served warm.

In the classic menu sequence one speaks of the pièce de résistance .
