The main post office in Opole (Opole) is a historic building in the southern city center. It is located on Bahnhofsplatz. As the Oberpostdirektion Opole , it was an intermediate authority of the postal administration in Opole and existed from January 1, 1850 to 1945.

history

The first post office was opened in Opole at the end of the 17th century and was housed on Ring No. 11, see Old Post Office . In 1822 the post office moved to today's Ul. Ozimska 2. However, this building quickly became too small and a new building was planned.

The main post office building was built in 1854 as the first building on Bahnhofsplatz. It was built far out of town, near the railroad tracks. It was built by the architect Albrecht, who also designed the town hall tower , in the neoclassical style. In 1891 the building was expanded by architects from Wroclaw. The two side wings on the front of the building, the entrance portal and the round staircase on the north side, which was decorated with an iron tower, were created. 1931 was at today's Ul. Korfantego built another building and converted the counter hall.

In 1930 a memorial was erected next to the post office in honor of the post office workers who fell in the First World War .
