history

In 1851, plans for the construction of the customs office building were drawn up by the regional building authorities. Sometimes the design is attributed to Paul Sprenger . The building was finally realized in 1858 according to plans by Ferdinand Kirschner.

Up until 2009, the Upper Austrian Financial Directorate and Customs Office were housed in the building, when they moved to the Terminal Tower at the main train station. From 2013 to 2015 the former official building was converted into a residential and office building.

architecture

Architecturally, this building is a striking example of early historicism with the inclusion of Romanizing and late classicist forms. On the main facade, designed with late Biedermeier elements, there is a large imperial double-headed eagle on the attic as a stone relief.
