Hardenberg House (2015)

Haus Hardenberg is a 14th-century moated castle and is hidden in old forests, on the right of the road from Anholt to Gendringen . The property is located on the Issel , exactly on the German-Dutch border. House Hardenberg was a border fortress of the Anholt rule until the 17th century.

history

In 1310 Dietrich van Zuilen received the castle as a fief from his father, Herr von Anholt . For the first time Dietrich van Zuilen (Dirck van Zulen) appears in the annals in 1347 as Lord von Hardenberg. The house must have been built as a border fortress in the 14th century in the shape of a square building with corner towers and the foreworks, surrounded by moats. Two wings of the original building are still preserved today. After a border adjustment in 2009, Haus Hardenberg is now completely in Germany, previously the forecourt was in the County of Zutphen , Province of Gelderland .
