House rake
House rake in Bochum was a noble residence in Bochum. In the year 1392 receives John of raking the estate of Limburg as a fief. It is believed that he converted the courtyard into a mansion surrounded by a moat . The estate belonged to the von Schell family from around the 16th century until the end.
Until the Second World War , there was also a park with a lake and a boat rental shop here. The lake was the work of important landscape architects; it contained rare species of fish, at times even a group of polar bears; exotic birds were breeding on its bank.
In addition, from 1921 the local history museum found a place in the house. It was set up and operated by the rector, city archivist and chairman of the Kortum Society, Bernhard Kleff .
Haus Rechen was destroyed by fire bombs on November 4, 1944 . Since the ruins of the Rechen building stood in the way of the plans to rebuild the Schauspielhaus Bochum , the rubble was cleared away in the spring of 1951 . Today the Kammerspiele are located on the site.
