Defense tower

The Schoppe house is a two-story half - timbered house in Langschede , Fröndenberg . The house was listed in 1995 , the tower on the property in 1987.

The year 1709 is inscribed on a chimney lintel. Another expansion dates back to 1771. Only a few Rococo elements remain in the house; Among other things, a window and a richly decorated door date from this era. The house at the most important intersection in the village in the immediate vicinity of a Ruhr bridge is currently empty, some windows are broken.

The house was owned by the Marck family since the 13th century on one to the house Altendorf related mansus in Langinscede was established. The Marcks had been tenants of the property since around 1486; around 1717 they acquired it as their property. After the major fire in Langschede in 1709, the Marck family rebuilt the greatly enlarged house. The last owner from this family was Carl Marck, who died childless in June 1799.

Caspar Heinrich Schoppe (1782-1859), until then the operator of the Langscheder Mühle, acquired the house in 1825. The property remained in his family until the 1990s. The mother Schoppe , who died at the age of 90, prevented the marriage of her three children, who therefore remained childless. In 1993/94 the last Ms. Schoppe sold the house to Günter Koch from Sümmern ; she herself passed away in 2000. The Schoppe estate has been fallow since it was sold and is left to decay; In 2015 the vacancy lasted for over 20 years.

On the property behind the house there is a three-storey defense tower made of quarry stone with a square floor plan from the 16th century. It is known as the "customs tower". It was originally built by the Counts of the Mark before 1397 to secure the Ruhr crossing. On the top of the roof there is a clock tower with a baroque hood.
