House Warsberg
The house Warsberg is a historic and listed building complex in Saarburg .
history
The building complex goes back to the 14th century Burgmannenhaus of the von der Leyen family.
1557 transferred Archbishop and Elector Johann VI. von der Leyen gave the building to the von Warsberg family . For nine generations the von Warsberg family was in the Electorate of Trier and later in the Prussian service. Under the von Warsberg family, the building complex that still exists today with its four wings was built between 1599 and 1712.
In 1847, the Saarburg district office rented office space for the first time as a “district pub” in the Warsberghaus. In 1865, the district acquired the south-eastern wing of the building as a district administration apartment and in 1903 the remaining building complex. From 1900 onwards it was converted into a district office according to plans by the district architect Karl Flacke .
In 1895 a "Tower Belvedere" was built in the adjoining Landratsgarten, from which there is a very good view of Saarburg.
After the dissolution of the district of Saarburg , the Warsberghaus became the seat of the Saarburg municipal administration in 1971 .
On August 19, 2018, there was a fire in the roof structure of Haus Warsberg, which destroyed large parts of the building. As a result, the building is largely unusable (as of August 20, 2018). According to the mayor of the association Jürgen Dixius, the reconstruction will probably take a few years. According to the original plans, the administration of the newly formed community of Saarburg-Kell was to be housed in the Warsberg building on January 1, 2019 .
