In the House of the Cantons at 6 Speichergasse in Bern, the secretariats of various intercantonal government and directors' conferences as well as institutions from their environment work.

The merging of these already existing facilities is intended to create synergies and strengthen intercantonal cooperation. It is easier for the cantons to bring common concerns to the federal government. Representatives of the cantons meet here for working meetings and conferences and maintain contact with the Confederation. The House of the Cantons has existed since August 18, 2008.

During this time, the physicist and later Nobel Prize winner worked out his groundbreaking theory of relativity , which he published in 1905.
