The House of City History is one of several local museums in the city of Donauwörth .

History and collection

The museum was opened in 1986 in the listed Rieder Tor, built in 1811 and badly damaged in World War II, and documents the development of the city from the founding of Mangoldstein Castle and Heilig Kreuz Monastery in the 10th and 11th centuries to the market award document from 1030 to the letter of arms Charles V , who in 1530 gave the imperial city the coat of arms that is still valid today. Further topics are the city fortifications, the jurisdiction (sword, neck violin, ankle and handcuffs) and the history of money (Staufer bracteate coinage, coin coinage under Charles V with embossing sticks up to the Donauwörther emergency money of inflation). In the following, the political battles for the city in the 17th and early 18th centuries and finally the bombing in April 1945 are discussed.

In an attic studio, the museum exhibits works by artists who have lived in Donauwörth, including works by the sculptor Augustin Manasser and a late Gothic wooden panel with the legend of St. Ursula from around 1500.
