Haus zum Horn

The Haus Zum Horn is a listed residential building in Aachen . It takes its name from Wilhelm VII. Van Horn († July 21, 1433), the owner of the previous building and sponsor of the neighboring Dominican monastery in Aachen . He was married to Johanna von Moers and they had their son Jakob I, who donated a plaque on his father's grave slab in the Dominican church of St. Paul and later transferred to the Franciscans.

description

In 1659, after the great fire in the city, a two-storey, 14-axis bluestone framework was built at today's Jakobstraße 24 in the bluestone framework with cross-section windows and a monumental round-arched gate entrance, which is characteristic of Aachen . In this and in the neighboring buildings up to house number 18, the house Zum güldenen Vercken (house Zum golden Schwein ) and later Marianneninstitut , Cornelius Chorus (1659-1754), the guild master of the Nadler, judged the Qurin Chorus (1632– 1687) inherited a needle factory founded in 1654, which remained there until 1881. The two-axis extension for the factory management, commissioned by his son of the same name (1701–1774) and created in 1757 by Johann Joseph Couven , is an important example of the Aachen Rococo due to its vertically aligned proportions and the fine window profiles .

In the Second World War, the building was destroyed except for the archway and the extension, in 1952 a new building was erected with the re-construction of the gate on new foundations and preservation of the Couven wing.
