House at Berolina (2009)

The House of Berolina is a commercial building in the neo-Renaissance style in Berlin district of Mitte with the address Hausvogteiplatz 12. The building complex was designed by the architect Hermann August Krause headed by antiquity & Zadek built and opened in 1895; it is a listed building .

description

The house, now simply called the office building, housed a textile trade, the rear part also served as a storage room. The five-storey façade is clad with ashlar and divided into three axes, the middle axis being emphasized by a bay window and a dwelling with a clock gable.

Due to its exposed location, the representative office building was the top address for fashion in Berlin-Mitte. The building complex is grouped around four generously designed inner courtyards, the facades of which are partially clad with glazed tiles. After the war, the building showed severe damage, so that some of the rich decors were no longer applied during the repair. During the GDR era, there was still a textile trade in the rooms.

The name Haus zur Berolina goes back to the original design of the facade, when the architect had a bust of a Berolina placed above the portal on the square. After a fire in 1918 and the restoration of the facade, the bust was no longer there. At the beginning of the 21st century, TLG Immobilien, as the manager of the building complex, initiated a competition to create a new Berolina bust and, if necessary, have it erected. However, a realization could not be determined until 2019.

The office building was carefully restored in 2003 under the responsibility of the architects Haas und Partner for around 13 million euros and modernized in its function as an office and commercial building.

In the 21st century, the office of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics is based in some rooms . All rooms are rented to the end of the 2010s.
