The Hausen ( Huso ) are a species of fish from the family of the sturgeon (Acipenseridae) with two species , the European Hausen ( Huso huso ) and the Kaluga Hausen ( Huso dauricus ). Both species can reach lengths well over four meters and are threatened with extinction.

Some authors classified the Hausen within the real sturgeon in their own subfamily (Husinae). More recent morphological and genetic studies indicate, however, that the genus is polyphyletic and that its species should be classified as Acipenser huso and Acipenser dauricus in the genus Acipenser .

features

In the Hausen, in contrast to the sturgeon ( Acipenser ) , the mouth is wide and semicircular and opens to the front. The barbels are flattened. In addition, the gill membranes on both sides of the head are connected to one another and have a fold free from the isthmus on the abdomen.
