The Hauserplads (also Hauser Plads; German  Hauserplatz ) is a square in downtown Copenhagen (Indre By). It is separated from the Kultorvet with the former library building, which today houses the Niels Brocks Gymnasium.

history

The square was named after the Swiss Conrad Caspar Hauser , who married a Dane in 1768 and settled in Copenhagen. After the English attack on Copenhagen in September 1807 , he bought a number of house lots and built them up, making Hauserplads one of several immediate and significant changes to the city map. The square used to be called Suhms-Platz in honor of the historian Peter Frederik Suhm , who lived here with a large collection of books until his death in 1798.

Redevelopment

The redevelopment of the square was completed in 2013, including new offices and a patio in the basement , which houses around 100 employees of the Center for Renhold (cleaning center) on the site of the former parking basement . The complex was designed by the Danish architects Polyform arkitekter and a Dutch company. A playground was set up above the offices . The square is covered with granite slabs and is already in line with Kultorvet and Købmagergade .

Hauserplatz in literature

In Søren Kierkegaard's stages on the life path of the Hauser place is mentioned several times. The author of the manuscript from the third part of the work says that he goes to Hauserplatz every Wednesday at 4 a.m. and that he met his former lover there several times.
