Suhmsgade

Suhmsgade (also Suhms-Gade) is a street in downtown Copenhagen (Indre By). The road extends Pilestræde and connects Landemærke ( Landemærket ) with Hauserplatz .

history

Suhmsgade was laid out immediately after the attack on Copenhagen in September 1807 . It is named after the historian and book collector Peter Frederik Suhm , whose large building with a book collection of 100,000 volumes was on the neighboring street Pustervig . In 1778 he made his library available to the public.

The Anemone Theater ( Anemone Teatret in Danish ) is located at Suhmsgade 4 . The painter Julius Exner lived at Suhmsgade 5 / Hauserplatz 14 from 1874 to 1888 .

Another street in Oslo is named after Suhm , see Suhms gate .

Suhmsgade in literature

In Søren Kierkegaard's stages on the path of life , Suhms-Gade is mentioned in the entry of the author of the manuscript from the third part of the work for February 28th. The author of the manuscript says that he goes to Hauserplatz every Wednesday at 4 a.m. to see the goldsmith. On February 28th he arrives 5 minutes earlier and after two minutes sees his former lover, who is looking for him on his usual route in the direction of Tornebuske-Gade . Thereupon he jumps out of the shop, turns into Suhms-Gade and arrives again at Hauserplatz from Tornebuske-Gade, at the end of which both pass each other.
