The Havelberg Horse Market , also known as the Havelberger Großer Markt , is a traditional folk festival in the German city of Havelberg in Saxony-Anhalt .

The horse market has existed since 1750. The folk festival attracts around 200,000 visitors annually. Approx. 1000 horses change hands here every year with a handshake.

The market runs Thursday through Sunday, including the first weekend in September.

The market was one of the largest cattle markets in the region in the 18th century. Since there are no other horse markets far and wide, the horse trade later gained special importance, which is why the name Havelberger horse market spread.
