The Hawke Hill Ecological Reserve is a nature reserve on the island of Newfoundland, which is part of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador . It was established as a provisional reserve in 1990. In 1992 the protected area received its current status. The protected area has a special flora.
location
The 1.3 km² reserve is located on the Avalon Peninsula 40 km southwest of St. John's . The Trans-Canada Highway runs about a kilometer north . The reserve is at an altitude of between 240 m and 280 m .
flora
Arctic-alpine flora thrives in the park area. In addition to the genus Diapensia, this includes the Alpine bearberry , the black crowberry and Sibbaldiopsis tridentata. Furthermore, Krummholz ( tuckamore ) grows from firs and spruces in the protected area .
