Diapensia is a plant kind from the family of Diapensiaceae . It includes four types .

description

Diapensia are compact, cushion-like shrubs, the stems are slender and heavily branched, the leaves are short-stalked and have entire margins. The flowers are solitary and terminal on small twigs or almost sessile, the inflorescence axes are elongated after flowering and of a flower-stem- like shape.

The calyx has two or three bracts at the base , the crown is bell-shaped, five-lobed and sloping after flowering. The stamens are fused at the base of the crown , the anthers are two-sided, staminodes are absent or are only rudimentary. The ovary is round and dreifächrig, the pen upright and filiform, the scar whole, provided with a head or weakly trilobed. The fruit is a tripartite capsule , elliptical to rounded, covered by the permanent calyx.

distribution

The genus has its center in the Himalayas. Diapensia lapponica , however, is indigenous to the circumboreal region and is also found in Europe.
