Heapstown
The cairn of Heapstown is the fourth largest artificial Cairn in Ireland . Like the somewhat higher Carn Connachtach and the Cairn on the Knocknarea, it is said to contain an unopened passage tomb or some other form of grave. Heapstow is located in County Sligo in Ireland.
The approximately six meter high Heapstown Cairn is about 60 m in diameter and is located at the northern end of Lough Arrow , about one kilometer east of the River Uinshin. Nearby is the Court Tomb Moytirra East ( Irish Mag Tuired , ['maɣʴ' turʴeð]), the portal Tomb Carrickglass or "The Labby", Castle Baldwin and about five kilometers to the northeast is Carrowkeel .
As with similarly large Cairns in Ireland, there is also a legend associated with the Heapstone: Ailill, the half-brother of "Niall of the Nine Hostages", is said to be buried here. The mythical Battle of Moytura ( Irish Cath Maighe Tuireadh ) is said to have taken place southeast of Heapstown .
Heapstown is a national monument.
