Hedstrom file

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hedstrom files are part of the dental instrument set and are used to treat root canals . With the help of these instruments, the root canals are cleaned and expanded in order to achieve an inner diameter of the canals that allows safe filling over the entire length of the canal with root filling materials.

Hedström files are ground from round steel, whereby the angle of the cutting edge is approx. 74 ° to the instrument axis, depending on the manufacturer . This fact makes Hedstrom files very effective tools because they remove material quickly. The different sizes of Hedstrom files are divided into ISO sizes (ISO 3630). In addition to reamers and files , which look very similar on the outside, they are the most common instruments for preparing teeth whose pulp (with its dental nerve) is non-vital or has to be removed for other reasons.
