Hefaidd Hen
Hefaidd Hen ("Hefaidd the Old"), also Hefydd , Hefeydd or Heveidd Hen , is a legendary figure or otherworld - deity from Welsh mythology .
mythology
Very little is known about Hefaidd Hen from the Mabinogion . In Pwyll Pendefig Dyfed ("Pwyll, Prince of Dyfed"), Hefaidd Hen is named as the father of Rhiannons . He promises his daughter Gwawl first , but she refuses. At her request, he has to accept Pwyll as her son-in-law. When Gwawl again demands Rhiannon at the engagement party and outsmarts Pwyll in the process, the connection between Gwawl and Rhiannon should be committed after a year. But this time Gwawl is duped and locked in a sack. Gwawl pleads not to let him die so shamefully and Hefaidd Hen also pleads for his life and gets Pwyll to release him against the holding of hostages.
- “Lord,” said Hefydd the old man, “he speaks the truth. It is right that you listen to him. This is not a dignified ending for him. "
