Heggbach facilities

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heggbach facilities are a social facility for the care, support and support of the handicapped, including in the former Heggbach monastery in the municipality of Maselheim in Baden-Württemberg .

history

After the monastery was donated to the Franciscan nuns in 1884, they set up a first facility for the mentally handicapped in 1887, according to the donor's wish (" Nursing facility for epileptic, stupid, feeble-minded and incurable "), into which eight needy people were admitted. Six years later, 150 people, 178 in 1900 and 249 in 1911, were housed in the facility.

A subsidiary facility for children was relocated to Ingerkingen in 1912 . The Ingerkingen children's asylum contained 79 children in 1914. A school was also set up here.

At the time of National Socialism , in 1940, 193 residents from Heggbach and 72 boys and girls from Ingerkingen were deported to Grafeneck and killed.

In 1950 the facility had 390 residents in Heggbach and 60 in Ingerkingen, which means that capacity limits are reached. In 1973, through the merger of the “Heggbach nursing home” and the “St. Maria Ingerkingen children's home”, the “Heggbach facilities” were officially founded. Workshops for the disabled and decentralized residential facilities will then be installed in the surrounding area.

In 1999, the Heggbach facilities provided 590 places to live, 68 places for school support and 800 work places for the disabled in workshops and agriculture.

On July 1, 1999, the Franciscan Sisters of Reute set up the St. Elisabeth Foundation based in Bad Waldsee in order to be able to continue to fulfill their charitable mandate. The Heggbach facilities were transferred to this foundation on January 1, 2000.
