Heike Vesper

Heike Vesper (* 1970 ) is a German biologist . She heads the marine protection department at WWF Germany . She is committed to reducing the amount of plastic packaging.

Life

Vesper studied biology in Bremen and Amsterdam, with a focus on marine biology and ecology. During her studies she took part in excursions in the wadden seas of the North Sea . Her thesis dealt with the ecology of coral reefs in Jordan .

Act

Vesper has been involved with the WWF since 1999. In 2000 she developed the WWF fish guide . She played a key role in the development of the marine stewardship council environmental label for fish . Vesper has been the head of the marine protection department at WWF Germany since 2011. Vesper has been the honorary chairwoman of the International Baltic Sea Foundation for Nature Conservation since 2014 . She pointed out the problem of bycatch in fisheries .

Vesper is a frequent guest on television programs, such as Hart aber fair and Markus Lanz . She calls for a "Paris Agreement for the Ocean" to end the pollution of the world's oceans.
