History and architecture

The previous church was a chapel dedicated to the Holy Cross and Saints Cornelius , donated by Messrs Raitz von Frentz in 1457 , which was demolished at the beginning of the 19th century. The new building according to plans of the diocesan master builder Heinrich Renard took place in the years 1913 to 1915. In terms of canon law, Ichendorf became a rectorate in 1914 . In 1920 the elevation to the parish took place .

Originally, the brick building was to be equipped with five bays and a tower attached to the northwest. For economic reasons, it was limited to three bays with the end of the choir. The patronage of the Holy Cross was taken over by the chapel at the inn , which was demolished in 1824 . The forms of the church are kept very simple. Instead of a tower, it has a six-sided roof turret.

The interior is formed by a three-aisled hall with a three-sided choir closure and a beautiful star vault in slightly gothic forms. The nave and choir are divided by two tiered buttresses. The strikingly narrow, arched windows of the nave, arranged in pairs, lie in flat, arched wall fields and are connected to one another by a stone window sill. The triple windows of the choir are ogival and covered by a connecting arch. On the west side there is a strong, gabled central projection with a round window, flanked by pointed arched window openings on the back parts.

From 1994 to 1995 the church was completely renovated. The choir was redesigned by the artist couple Huppetz-Weskott and given a new altar.
