Holy Family (Wendersreuth)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Roman Catholic local chapel Holy Family is located in the Wendersreuth district of Kirchendemenreuth . It belongs to the Kirchendemenreuth branch office , which is now administered from Parkstein together with the parish of St. Pankratius.

history

The chapel was built in the Art Nouveau or neo-Romanesque style between 1904 and 1906. The building was initiated by the clerical dean Johann Baptist Kühner, who was born on the Kühner estate in Wendersreuth. The chapel was built on private land, and in 1970 it came into the possession of the Kirchendemenreuth community. The masonry work was carried out by the Döltsch "Hohlrüther mason", that was the mason brothers Johann, Josef and Karl and they were nephews of Pastor Kühner. For the construction of the chapel, tension services were also performed by the local residents, including the only Protestant family in the area.

It is still customary today for the hearse to stop in front of the chapel before taking a deceased person to the cemetery in Kirchendemenreuth and for the death bell to be rung. The custom of holding a showroom has recently ceased.

Building description

The chapel is a steep roof building with a chancel closed on three sides. It is crowned with a gable rider with a bell dome . A granite portal serves as the entrance, the side windows are designed around the top. Leaded-glass windows were donated by the Witt family from Bamberg , who came from Wendersreuth. The chapel was renovated in the 1990s.

Furnishing

According to a letter from the Expositus Vogl dated May 5, 1942 to Bishop Michael Buchberger , the chapel was fully furnished by the clerical councilor Johann Baptist Kühner. The altar, including the carved figures, is said to come from Lower Bavaria, where Pastor Kühner worked. A representation of the Holy Family is in the altar of the church. On the altar table there is a statue of Our Lady with the baby Jesus (probably not from the original equipment of the chapel). Cross particles should be built into the altar table . The symbols of the four evangelists are depicted in the four corners of the ceiling . On the walls there are painted representations of the Way of the Cross , figures of St. Florian and St. Wendelin . The Way of the Cross was consecrated on June 29, 1906 by the Guardian of the Pfreimd Monastery .

Bells

The chapel has two bells, one for ringing prayer twice and the other is the death bell . During the Second World War , the bells should have been removed and delivered for war purposes, but the owner buried them in his property so that they could survive the war.
