The Church of the Holy Cross ( Polish: Kościół św. Krzyża w Cieszynie ) in Cieszyn , Poland , is a Catholic church east of the Old Town Market Square. Inside are the statues of St. Joseph and St. Ignatius of Loyola from the mid-19th century. In the facade are statues of Joseph with the baby Jesus and St. Francis integrated.
The floor plan is rectangular with a main nave and three side aisles.
history
The church was built as a chapel in the Baroque style in 1648 and was taken over by the Jesuits in 1670 , who enlarged it in 1707. Next to it is the monastery building, which also included a grammar school. After the Jesuit ban in 1773, the school was nationalized and the church is part of it as a school church. 1781–1782 the church was expanded with a tower on a private initiative, but in 1789 it burned down. Many renovations followed.
Currently the church and monastery are used by the Franciscans who work for the homeless.
