It was made up of special educators, parents, the Paritätischem Wohlfahrtsverband NRW , Lebenshilfe Krefeld and the association for the promotion and care of the spastic paralyzed and other physically handicapped people, Krefeld. Disabled school leavers should be enabled to participate in social life through work. In addition to a special educational day-care center, a workshop for people with disabilities should also be set up. In 1973 Grefrath - Vinkrath started with 60 workshop spaces. In August 1977 the new building of the curative education workshops in Tönisvorst / Hochbend with 280 seats was put into operation, where the central administration of the hpz is still located today. Since then, the workshops and offers of the hpz in the district of Viersen and in the city of Krefeld have been expanded. The increasing target group of people with mental illnesses find jobs in the own workshops of the hpz subsidiary "impuls" in Viersen , Kempen , Tönisvorst and Krefeld.

tasks

The hpz sees itself as a lobby group and as a promoter of people with intellectual disabilities, with severe multiple disabilities and with mental illnesses. The hpz follows the task of promoting and promoting the participation of disabled people in the world of work and promoting their integration or inclusion in society.

particularities

The dual management of the workshops by a production specialist and a teacher is a special feature of the hpz. It serves to balance the goals of education and rehabilitation on the one hand and product orientation on the other hand in everyday work. This approach of achieving a balance between pedagogy and economy would also be applied to other workshops.

Special offers

Since 1980 workshops have been set up for severely and multiply disabled people in the special educational care work area (ASB) and the work area for social integration (ASI) for people with behavioral and integration problems. Compared to other workshops in the region, the proportion of these employees is now relatively high at almost 35 percent. The system of integrating severely disabled people under the roof of the workshops only exists in North Rhine-Westphalia. The other federal states have set up day-care centers for this purpose.
