Homberg Local History Museum (Efze)

The local history museum of the city of Homberg (Efze) in northern Hesse is housed in the wedding house built in 1517 and the kitchen building from 1582 attached to it. Its exhibitions are primarily dedicated to the city and economic history.

One focus of the local history museum, opened in 1961, is the history and products of the ironworks in the Holzhausen district . A model shows the factory as it was in the early 20th century. In addition, the visitor is given an overview of the techniques of iron extraction and iron smelting . Among the numerous cast-iron ovens and oven plates on display is the rare “fairytale oven” with depictions of Moritz von Schwind , who is one of the most important artistic products of the ironworks.
