The Seulberg Local History Museum

The Seulberg local history museum is located in Seulberg , the oldest part of Friedrichsdorf (Taunus).

description

It is the largest local museum in the Taunus . Located in the old school and town hall, it is primarily dedicated to local history and old handicrafts. A first collection was created for the 1200th anniversary in 1968. This laid the foundation for today's Seulberg Museum of Local History. In 1972 the museum was opened. The carrier is the Association for History and Local History Friedrichsdorf e. V. Through the expansion of the attic and an extension, additional space was gained for further exhibitions. An expansion followed for special exhibitions that are now known nationwide. In 2005/6 the association began to redesign the permanent exhibition. To this day, departments are gradually being redesigned in a modern way. In addition to regular special exhibitions, the Heimatmuseum organizes annual handicraft markets (Easter, Aulofen and Nikolaus markets) and various children's events, such as Sulina’s children's games and children's birthdays in the museum. Last year the local history museum welcomed 10,000 visitors.

As the most important line of business in the village, a department is dedicated to the pottery, for which the Taunusdorf was the center in the 17th century. The 16 resident masters made water jugs, stove tiles, building ornaments and pipes and burned them in the stove, the aulofen. The very special firing technique was not widely used and is mainly limited to the area around Seulberg. In 1847 the fire was stoked for the last time in the Aulofen used. Since the museum is located in the former school building, an old classroom has been refurbished. Other traditional handicrafts are also presented: a shoemaker's workshop, hairdressing salon and butcher's shop, forestry and agriculture make exhibits, photos and, in some cases, sound documents accessible. The first showroom goes deep into local history. Archaeological finds from a villa rustica document the advance of the Romans into the Taunus. A model of the estate offers an insight into the town's early settlement history. The dark chapters of Seulberg's history, such as the Thirty Years War and the witch hunt , are not left out. Because between 1652 and 54 children started a real witch hunt, at the end of which 32 men, women and children were burned.

The museum goblin Sulinchen

The museum's mascot is the goblin Sulinchen . Initially intended as a popular figure for the museum, Erika Dittrich, as 1st chairwoman of the Society for History and Local History Friedrichsdorf e. V. the figure who has since found a large following. After the first drafts, Reinhild Massey realized the goblin in drawings. In addition, Uschi Flacke and Erika Dittrich wrote and recorded especially for children in the audio stations department and recorded and set music as a radio play Sulinchen, the museum goblin by Gunter Gräfe , which is now also available on CD . The origin of the name of the goblin lies in an old name for Seulberg as "Suleburc".
